2008 MMFL Fall League

Frequently Asked Questions

1.      When does the Fall Ball Season start for 2008? August 24th is the first week of League Games. **Week 1 and Week 2 Schedules and Locations will be posted on the MMFL Web Page August 19th.

2.      How is my daughter’s age group determined?  Your age group is determined by the level you will play at for the next season.

10 or younger on December 31st, you play 10U

12 or younger on December 31st, you play 12U

14 or younger on December 31st, you play 14U

16 or younger on December 31st, you play 16U

3.      Will the games be played far from Farmington, MN? As stated on the MMFL website. “This year the league will be modifying its popular scheduling system to attempt to localize teams more, and reduce travel while still maintaining parity in the scheduling”. Because there are fewer teams in the Fall League, distances are greater than in the summer. Furthest 2007 Fall-Ball locations by League. 10U- Mound, Maple Grove. 12U- White Bear Lake. 14U- Coon Rapids, Ham Lake.

4.      Will there be Try-Outs for players registering to play in the Fall-Ball League? There are no tryouts for Fall-Ball. We will make every attempt to place ALL players registered.

5.      My daughter has played in-house softball; does she have the skills to play at this level? Will she play? Skills and abilities will vary from player to player; additional practice and games will improve these skills. Free Substitution and Batting the entire roster is mandatory for the fall league. There is also a 5 run per inning limit for league games. These are factors that increase the field time for ALL players.

6.      The cost seems reasonable at $75 for the 2008 Fall Season; are there additional costs that I need to be aware of? No; team shirt is included with the payment of $75. *If your player is new to FGFA softball; Helmet w/faceguard, softball glove, shoes and slider would be the equipment NOT provided.

7.      My work schedule will make it difficult to provide transportation for my daughter, how can I make this work? Carpooling has worked well for players/parents that have transportation issues. Let me know if this is a concern; we can discuss and work through these issues.

8.      My daughter plays softball for the FUN of it. This is the league for YOU!! The softball enjoyment doesn’t have to end after summer league; she is able to continue her softball experiences into the fall.

9.      Our family has vacation planned in August; will this be frustrating for coaches and players? From my experience last fall season; it isn’t uncommon for players to be absent or leave early due to other obligations. The coaches will try to schedule practices so most players are available. It was unusual to have a full team for practices and games.

10.  What time are the “double Header” games on Sunday? The MMFL Fall League Info sheet shows game times at; noon, 1:30pm, 3pm and 4:30pm.

11.  Off-Season Director sounds cool, is it a paid position? No; but as fun and rewarding as this position is, I should be paying the FGFA for the opportunity. I think I can speak for most of the board positions; it can be hard work and at times frustrating; but the reward is seeing the players enjoying their softball experiences. You don’t know what you’re missing. Join the FGFA board today.

12. What age groups are eligible to play Fall League?  Fall ball is open to all girls ages 8-16.  League play at the 10U, 12U, 14U and 16U age groups.
